In just 24 hours after its release, Moana 2 teaser trailer accumulated 178 million views (May 29), setting a record for a Disney and Pixar Animated film, beating the previous record held by “Inside Out 2” with 157 million views and “Frozen 2” with 116 million views.
“Moana 2”, the direct sequel to the 2016 original animation, will be in theaters on November 27. The story follows Moana as she goes on a new and unexpected adventure into unknown waters after getting a call from her ancestors. Dwayne Johnson is back as Maui, the demigod. Moana and Maui are joined by a new group of friends on their journey, making the story even more exciting.
Besides the animated sequel, Disney is also making a live-action version of the original “Moana.” This live-action film will come out in theaters on July 10, 2026, with Dwayne Johnson playing his animated character, Maui. However, Auli’i Cravalho (the original voice of Moana) has been revealed to be sitting out of the film.
Moana 2 was directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. It will feature music by songwriting partners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear as well as Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina.
As we wait for “Moana 2,” no one is the wiser about how the film will turn out, but it’s apparent that excitement is growing.
