This is what underwear does to your body

Have you ever thought about not wearing underwear? The choice to go commando, or without underwear, has become more popular lately. People do it for reasons like avoiding underwear lines or feeling more comfortable. Surprisingly, there are both good and bad effects on your health when you choose to go commando, as explained by experts.

Dr. Donnic Moore, a gynecologist, says it’s important to let your private parts “breathe.” Going commando, even if only at night, can give your private areas a chance to get some air. Some people proudly go without underwear during the day.

One good thing about not wearing underwear is that it might reduce sweating and bad smells, especially during physical activities. Tight or non-breathable underwear can make the private area too warm, leading to more sweating. Many people choose to go commando during workouts to avoid chafing, visible lines, and to move more freely. Less sweating can also mean fewer bad smells.

Another health benefit of not wearing underwear is that it might lower the risk of infections like yeast infections, Bacterial Vaginosis, fungal infections, and UTIs. Not wearing underwear stops heat and moisture from building up, creating a less friendly environment for infections, according to OB/GYN Dr. Sherry A. Ross.

Chafing, a common problem with underwear, can be relieved by going commando. Ill-fitting or tight undies can irritate, so it’s important to choose comfort. Going without underwear allows the vulva and buttocks to move freely, reducing discomfort caused by underwear.

People with allergies or sensitivities to certain fabrics might find relief by going commando. Some underwear materials, dyes, or chemicals can irritate the private area, so natural fiber options like cotton may be better. Using hypoallergenic and fragrance-free detergents also helps make the experience more comfortable.

Avoiding tight underwear or shapewear can prevent circulation problems. Both can lead to nerve problems and decreased circulation, according to Dr. Donnica Moore. Shapewear has also been linked to chafing and acid reflux because it’s tight and restrictive.

If you have ingrown hairs, going commando might help because tight underwear can make the problem worse. However, it’s important to consider potential irritation from clothing materials when choosing to go commando.

Despite these benefits, going without underwear may expose your private parts to potential injuries, especially when wearing pants with zippers. Without a protective layer, there’s a higher risk of accidents, which may lead to skin nicks. So, making good clothing choices is essential for safety.

However, there are some drawbacks. Going commando doesn’t guarantee a problem-free experience, as clothing materials can still cause discomfort. Also, not wearing underwear might make the private area feel damp, affecting overall comfort.

So, deciding to go commando involves thinking about the potential benefits and drawbacks. Everyone’s comfort level and body response are different, so it’s important to consider what works best for your well-being. Whether it’s about avoiding infections, feeling more comfortable during workouts, or preventing ingrown hairs, going commando is a personal choice that needs careful consideration of its impact on your body.
