An incident occurred between Rwandan border patrol units and three armed soldiers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as reported on Rwanda defense force X (twitter) announcement.
On January 16 at 1:10 am, The confrontation took place when three armed soldiers from the DRC’s armed forces (FARDC) crossed into Isangano Village, situated in Rukoko Cell, Rubavu Sector, Rubavu District.
RDF patrols, with assistance from the neighborhood watch (Irondo), apprehended two of the DR Congo soldiers, Sergeant Asman Mupenda Termite (30) and Corporal Anyasaka Nkoi Lucien (28). The soldiers were found in possession of weaponry, including one AK-47 gun, four magazines with 105 rounds, one protective vest, and cannabis sachets.
During the confrontation, the third soldier was shot by RDF patrols after firing at them. Thankfully, no injuries were reported on the Rwandan side. Ongoing investigations are still ongoing to determine the motives behind the soldiers’ border crossing and resulting in confrontation, the RDF statement provides no additional details at this time.
