President Paul Kagame has been named among the political leaders to co-chair the Global Citizen NOW summit 2024 in New York City.
According to a press release dated 28th march 2024, Global Citizen is set to hold a two day summit at Spring Studios in New York from 1st to 2nd May, 2024.
Kagame will co-chair the summit alongside Mokgweetsi Masisi-President of Botswana; Gaston Browne-Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda; Philip Davis-Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Stefan Löfven-Former Prime Minister of Sweden, and Erna Solberg-Former Prime Minister of Norway.
Themed ‘Act Now, Save Tomorrow’, the summit intends to focus on ideas for urgent action towards a world where everyone’s basic needs are fulfilled, the planet flourishing and prosperity of individuals and countries.
According to Hugh Evans-Co-Founder and CEO Global Citizen, “The world is standing at a crossroads and we have a choice: we can watch the impoverished go hungry, suffer through natural disasters, and die from preventable diseases, or we can take bold action to defeat poverty, defend the planet and course correct toward a more equitable future”, adding that “We have the power to create monumental impact this year if we have the courage to stand up and take action now.”
The summit will also bring together corporate, cultural and Philanthropic leaders like award-winning actor, playwright and Global Citizen and UN Goodwill Ambassador Danai Gurira.

Additionally, there will be an award ceremony for the Global Citizen Prize 2024 where advocates profoundly impacting their communities in gender equality, civic space, climate change, food and nutrition, and health and vaccines, will be recognized in addition to the Cisco Youth Leadership Award for a young person who has positively impacted the world through technology innovation.
