On a star-studded red carpet in Los Angeles on Friday 5th, the dynamic team debuted their imaginative partnership, laying the groundwork for an unprecedented cinematic experience. Now a well-known producer, Jay-Z expressed his excitement by saying, “I just want to have fun. I want to launch a product that embodies my culture and in which I believe. We have now found ourselves in the New Testament, where we belong, having correctly put ourselves in the Old West.”

After years of nurturing this idea, director and writer Jeymes Samuel said, “It was always time to tell the story, but the circumstances needed to align.” To make it happen, I had to be in the right place. I wrote the screenplay in 2017 after first coming up with the concept in the early 2000s and working on the tunes in 2005. I realized it was time to make the transition from the Old West to the New Testament after reading “The Harder They Fall.”
Set against the backdrop of Biblical times in 29 AD, the film was shot in the historical locales of Italy and Jerusalem, featuring an ensemble cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Lakeith Stanfield, Omar Sy, and Anna Diop.
Anna Diop, a Dakar-born actress, expressed her delight at participating in a project set in such a historic era. “We don’t often see stories of people like us during this time, making this entirely original. Shooting in Matera, Italy, with its prepared cityscape, felt like a journey back in time – an intense and special experience,” she shared.
Omar Sy, the talented French actor, added, “It was amazing to shoot in Matera. The city, already a set, provided an authentic backdrop. It felt like we went back in time, creating a unique atmosphere for the shoot.”
Blending elements of adventure, comedy, and drama, the film promises a spellbinding experience and is set to premiere on January 12 in the US.
