The first lady of Rwanda H.E, Jeannette Kagame, was on 5th, May 2024 named the seventh most decent African first lady by Descent Africa magazine – after scoring a Global Decency Index of 5.9.
According to the magazine, Jeannette’s significant contributions to Rwanda and the continent, coupled with her dedication to improving the lives of women and children, earned her this prestigious accolade.
For this year’s ratings, the magazine says the list was a compilation of the First Ladies’ public appearances from over 25 events in the previous year.
Jeannette Kagame, the force behind the Imbuto Foundation – a non-profit organisation focusing on youth and women empowerment through humanitarian work in education and health – has championed various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable populations, including the construction of health facilities, the provision of scholarships to disadvantaged students, and the promotion of women’s entrepreneurship.
The magazine also recognised the first lady of Uganda, Janet Kataha Museveni, who came in the first position with a score of 8.3. Mutinta Hichilema, the first lady of Zambia, scored 7.1. Rebecca Akufo Ado, the first lady of Ghana, came in third position with 6.9, and Fatima Jabbe Bio of Sierra Leone scored 6.8, coming in as the forth most decent first lady.
Dominique Claudine Nouvian Ouattara, the first lady of Ivory Coast, scored 6.7, earning herself the fifth position, followed by Rachel Ruto from Kenya with 6.6. In the eighth position was Ichraf Said of Tunisia with a score of 5.3, Remi Tinubu of Nigeria with 5.1, and Tshepo Motsepe of South Africa with 5.0.
