Disney’s decision to update the color scheme of the Disney Plus logo and combine its brand with Hulu comes to harmonize the visual identities of its multiple streaming services as the media company expands.
With the approaching merger of Disney Plus and Hulu in the United States, the use of a teal backdrop harmonizes branding across the two platforms. By combining colors similar to Hulu’s characteristic green, Disney hopes to create a consistent and unified experience for users, allowing for a smooth transition between the two platforms.
In explaining the rationale behind the logo color change, a Disney spokesperson Christina Schake stated, “We believe that by unifying the visual identities of Disney Plus and Hulu, we can enhance the overall user experience and provide subscribers with a more cohesive streaming platform. The teal background not only pays homage to Hulu’s distinct branding but also represents a fresh new chapter for Disney’s streaming services.”
Reactions to the logo color change have been divided, with some hailing the choice as a bold and creative step toward the merger, while others express nostalgia for the iconic blue design.
One Disney fan wrote, “I respect Disney’s efforts to simplify its brand, but I can’t help but feel nostalgic for the former blue logo. It’s like saying goodbye to a long-time friend.”
Walt Disney and his brother Roy O. Disney formed the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in 1923. Their first noteworthy achievement was the development of Mickey Mouse and the publication of the pioneering animated short film “Steamboat Willie” in 1928.
This marked the start of Disney’s adventure, which would eventually extend to feature-length films like “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937, which is widely recognized as the first full-length animated feature film.
