CAF (Confédération Africaine de Football) has revealed a substantial 40% increase in the prize money for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) winner in Côte d’Ivoire 2023. The triumphant team of the 34th edition of this premier continental sporting event will be awarded a total of 7,000,000 USD, equivalent to over 4 billion FCFA.
According to CAF, the runner-up in this CAN edition will receive 4,000,000 USD (approximately 2.3 billion FCFA). Additionally, each semifinalist will depart with 2,500,000 USD, while the four quarterfinalists will be granted 1,300,000 USD each.
Patrice Motsepe, the President of the African football governing body, expressed pride in the substantial progress made over the past two years, highlighting the significant augmentation in prize money for CAN and other major competitions.
“We have increased the prize for the CAN winner to 7,000,000 USD, representing a 40% rise compared to the previous CAN,” stated Patrice Motsepe. He further conveyed his confidence that a portion of this amount would contribute to football development, benefit all football stakeholders, and support member associations in their administrative endeavors.
The Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Côte d’Ivoire 2023.
