The Basketball Africa League (BAL) Nile Conference continued with an electrifying matchup between Al Ahli Tripoli and Nairobi City Thunder on 19th May 2025 at BK Arena Kigali, Rwanda.
The game was a high-scoring spectacle, with Al Ahli Tripoli setting a new BAL record for most points in a single game, defeating Nairobi City Thunder 115-87.
Starting off, Al Ahli Tripoli made immediate control, scoring two consecutive three-pointers to establish a 6-0 lead thanks to; Nassen Badrush and Deon Thompson who led the charge. This forced Nairobi City Thunder to call a timeout just three minutes into the game. However, despite their strong effort, the first quarter ended with Al Ahli Tripoli leading 24-18.
In the second quarter, Nairobi City Thunder fought back, narrowing the gap to 39-37 after a 6-0 scoring run. Al Ahli Tripoli responded with another three-pointer, maintaining their lead into halftime at 53-38.
This force was maintained in the third quarter when they dominated–67-41 with back-to-back three-pointers from Jaylen Adams and Jean-Jacques Boissy. And by the end of the quarter, the score stood at 81-53, with Nairobi City Thunder struggling to keep up.
In the final quarter, both teams brought their ‘A’ game, adding 34 points to their totals. This saw Al Ahli Tripoli secure their 115-87 victory, marking the highest-scoring game in BAL history.
With their 2-0 record in the BAL Nile Conference games thus far, Al Ahli Tripoli is now a strong contender for the BAL Playoffs-set to face Rwanda’s APR (whose performance has also been outstanding this season), in a crucial matchup that could solidify their dominance.
On the other hand, Nairobi City Thunder, after two consecutive losses, promised to regroup and refocus ahead of their next game against MBB South Africa so as to stay in contention for the BAL Playoffs.
