Mayor Andre Dickens of Atlanta has proclaimed November 18th as “Davido Day” to celebrate the notable Nigerian artist’s contributions to the entertainment scene in the city. The declaration comes after Atlanta’s State Farm Arena hosted Davido’s groundbreaking A.W.A.Y. (Are We African Yet?) Music Festival, which honored African music and culture.

Mayor Dickens expressed gratitude during a press conference on Thursday, acknowledging Davido’s multifaceted role as a singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. The mayor commended the artist for captivating audiences globally and becoming a symbol of excellence in the music industry. Dickens highlighted Davido’s dedication to giving back to communities in both the United States and Africa throughout his illustrious career.
The Atlanta City Council joined in the celebration, officially proclaiming November 18, 2023, as Davido Day in the city of Atlanta. In addition, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners declared November 21 to be “Davido Appreciation Day” in Fulton County, Georgia, at the same time.
Davido, a trailblazer in the Nigerian music scene and recognized as a leading figure in Afro beats, launched his career with well-received albums like “Omo Baba Olowo” (2012) and “A Good Time” (2019). His global impact is evident through chart-topping hits such as ‘Aye,’ ‘If,’ and ‘Fall.’

This recent accolade follows Davido’s impressive performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, where he received three nominations. His album “Timeless” earned nominations for Best Global Music Album, Best African Music Performance, and Best Global Music Performance.
The recognition of ‘Davido Day’ not only signifies the artist’s influence on Atlanta’s cultural fabric but also underscores his commitment to bridging musical and cultural gaps on a global scale. As Davido continues to shape the narrative of Afro beats, his legacy extends beyond music, leaving an indelible mark on communities and inspiring a new generation of artists.
