New internet businesses seem to pop up every few weeks in Rwanda, each claiming to revolutionize some aspect of the market. Araka, however, is one to be taken seriously. Launched in January this year, the company is already operational in four countries: Rwanda, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya.
Given its success in less than six months, it plans to expand to even more African countries in the near future. Over the past few decades, information technology has revolutionized the private sector, significantly boosting productivity.
Araka assists businesses in transitioning from traditional methods to digital platforms, optimizing processes, improving efficiency, and enhancing customer experiences through technology.
“To make it short and simple, ‘Araka’ means ‘speed’ in Swahili. We basically simplify and speed up company processes,” said Gael Thijs, Araka’s founder.

How do they achieve this?
Along with adapting implementation costs to each country’s pricing structure, the startup develops communication project management methods tailored to the needs of its member organisations.
“Most digitization companies typically have a large IT team that doesn’t fully grasp the business needs of their customers,” Mr. Thijs explained. “Our approach is quite different. We have more business consultants with deep knowledge of Odoo (more on this later). This makes it easier for them to understand the specific needs and major concerns of our customers.
As a result, we can provide the right tools to effectively address these issues. This is one of our key strengths.” The second is Araka’s implementation of the QuickStart methodology, which allows them to move swiftly and deliver software quickly.
For the customer, this means less friction and a competitive price for a high quality product.
in-one, open-source business management software that integrates various business applications, including CRM, e-commerce, accounting, inventory, and project management, into a single, user-friendly platform.
This integration explains why Araka itself operates as a multilevel platform. As a prime example of an existing partnership that demonstrates the platform’s far-reaching impact, Mr. Thijs cited The Chillest Afterwork networking event, which created a buzz during its last two editions by facilitating business conversations in a relaxed atmosphere.
“Araka is all about turbocharging businesses with cutting edge digital tools, while Chillest Afterwork organizes super cool events that mix education with entertainment,” said Mr. Thijs. “Both thrive on innovation and a dynamic approach, creating impactful experiences whether it’s transforming business operations or hosting one-of-a kind event.”
