Rwanda now offers visa-free access to 65 destinations, representing 29 percent of the globe, according to the 2024 Global Mobility Report by Henley, a leading residence and citizenship advisory firm.
While it may seem minor to some, travelers understand the relief that comes with bypassing visa requirements. Visa openness simplifies travel and fosters international collaboration, opening doors for new business ventures and partnerships.
Since the report’s release in July, Rwanda has added Kazakhstan and the Bahamas to its list of visa waiver agreements. This brings the total number of visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations for Rwandan citizens to 67 out of 227.
As a result, Rwanda is positioned 76th globally in the Henley Passport Index, a ranking that evaluates passports based on the number of destinations accessible without a prior visa. Regarding passport strength, Rwanda ranks 132nd out of 199, reflecting the percentage of global GDP accessible to its holders without a visa—currently standing at 5.4 percent.

Gen-Z, millennials lead the charge in global mobility
According to the report, Gen Z and millennials have come of age in a vastly different world than their predecessors. The internet has given them a front-row seat to the globalization of the job market and the rise of a gig economy. The boomer-era idea of a lifelong job is a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, soaring housing costs have left many doubting if they’ll ever own a home. Similarly, personal relationships have been affected, with declining rates of marriage and childbirth across the globe. Flexibility and constant change have become the new norm.
Given this landscape, it’s no surprise that many in Gen Z are drawn to living abroad. The allure lies in the ability to earn high remote wages while enjoying lower living costs, often in countries with less political division, better public transportation, more green spaces, and lower rates of gun violence.
This growing mobility among Gen Z and millennials is reshaping how we view work, community, and personal fulfillment. The future isn’t about being tied to one place or one career, but about embracing the freedom to explore and connect on a global scale. The Nomadic Age is here, and its impact will be felt for generations to come.
