In response to the global challenges posed by the pandemic, the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have jointly declared 2023 as the Year of Tourism, aiming to rejuvenate the tourism industry not only within the SCO space but worldwide, according to Zhang Ming.
Zhang Ming, the Secretary-General of the SCO, shared plans for an upcoming forum that will address key issues related to the development and implementation of measures to boost tourism across the SCO region. The forum is anticipated to convene heads of tourism administrations from member states, SCO observers, dialogue partners, international organizations, leaders of national tourism companies, representatives from business circles, and members of the media.
Highlighting Almaty as the designated cultural and tourist capital of the SCO for 2023-2024, Zhang Ming emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to spearheading specific plans for tourism development within the SCO space. As part of these initiatives, an international tourism forum held in Aktau is set to contribute significantly to the revival of the tourism sector.
Taking over the SCO chairmanship in July, Kazakhstan’s proactive approach reflects a concerted effort to address the challenges brought about by the pandemic and to foster collaboration among member states in revitalizing the tourism industry.
