On the 8th of March every year, Rwanda joins the world in celebrating International Women’s Day. This day is an occasion to reflect and celebrate great achievements accomplished by women.
Gender equality remains the greatest human rights challenge. This year’s theme reads “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”.
As women around the world pause to reflect and make plans for change, wearing purple to symbolize justice and dignity, and green for hope has become a symbol of collaboration. Others organize events, conferences, and panel discussions on topics related to women’s rights.
In Italy, women are traditionally given bunches of small yellow mimosas, symbolizing female strength and solidarity. In Romania, this day provides a reason for people, particularly men, to recognize their mothers, grandmothers, and friends with children by giving them cards and flowers.
